Single adult or couple: come park your van/RV/tiny home alongside a large, shaded deck on 25 acres of exquisite oak and pine forest we call Windsong Ridge, about 30-35 minutes outside of Grass Valley and Nevada City in Nevada County, CA.
At your site, which we call Laughing Buddha, you will have your own storage space (in the well house) and composting toilet and can enjoy access to additional shared spaces, including a 30’ yurt with a full kitchen, movement space, living room, and outdoor deck with grill and furniture; a newly remodeled bathhouse with shower and tub overlooking the river canyon; a wood-fired sauna; greenhouse and garden beds; excellent WiFi (Starlink) and cell coverage (Verizon and T-Mobile); and laundry facilities.
Note: for the right person, there might be the option to rent-to-own a beautiful customized trailer we have on the property if you don't have your own rig.
Not included in the monthly rent is your personal propane use, shared propane (e.
g.
, for the grill) and shared expenses related to food production (seed, soil, chicken feed etc.
).
Additional fee for dogs.
More detail will be provided on request or when you are invited to come for a visit.
The homestead overlooks the Yuba River canyon and is 100% solar-powered and off grid.
You will be serenaded by the wind chimes throughout the property and can enjoy a fire on your deck or in the shared fire pit, and set up a hammock in the sun in the winter and shade in the summer.
We will spend time together in our shared permaculture garden or other work on the homestead that creates abundance and sustainability for all of us.
There is also the potential for paid work such as carpentry, forestry, electrical and plumbing, depending on your skills.
Your land mates will be two friends who met when the property owner needed support and guidance to develop the land in line with sustainability and regenerative principles.
She has been here since 2019, having purchased the land after both her kids were off to college and wanted to live more simply and in a deeper, more intimate relationship with the land.
The more recent resident is a builder/engineer specializing in permaculture design.
He has been working and/or living here as an advisor and co-creator of systems and structures that support these values since 2021.
Besides Laughing Buddha and the shared facilities, the property has several other structures including a renovated barn and studio occupied by the owner, a utility shed, “garage” (where we store building materials and other assets) and additional outhouses.
We also reserve spaces for travelers/visitors and have a campsite in the lower part of the property that we rent out for short stays.
We will be developing additional sites in the future to generate revenues to support the homestead’s maintenance and development.
We currently have no pets or livestock, but plan to install a chicken yard in Spring 2024.
We are open to your pets, but the specifics would need to be discussed as certain types and temperaments might not be a good match.
We invite a renter to join us who enjoy solitude but also like the idea of living harmoniously with others and who live a clean, simple and quiet lifestyle (no or occasional alcohol/marijuana, non-smokers).
You will be someone who thrives in quiet, rural settings and are comfortable with remote and camping-style living (we pee outside and use a humanure system for poo).
If you are interested in this opportunity, first make sure you've read this post in detail to ensure you understand what is offered and who might be compatible.
Then, please respond with a description of yourself, what attracts you, and why you feel you might be a good fit.
Please also let us know how you're earning money, how you see yourself participating on an evolving homestead, and your relationship to substances.
The more you include the easier it will be for us to decide whether to connect directly, then invite you for a visit.
We look forward to hearing from you!
