Title of Position: Production Planner/Scheduler
Immediate Supervisor: Operations Manager
FLSA: Exempt
In Case of Absence: Operations Manager will assume all responsibilities.
Safety and Plant Policies & Regulations
• Understand and comply with Cal-Osha regulations and Company policies as they pertain to the safety of all employees.
• Read, understand, and acknowledge company policies as written in the Employee Handbook.
• All employees are required to adhere to all Food Safety requirements and programs including but not limited to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Food Defense and Allergen Programs.
Food safety training will be completed a minimum of once a year.
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of the Production Scheduler is to establish daily, weekly and monthly production schedules based on many factors which will allow for on time shipment of customer orders.
These factors include but are not limited to; employee capital restraints, inventory availability, equipment capabilities, sanitation restraints; etc.
The primary goal is to deliver good to customer on time.
Key Duties:
• Create production schedules and make needed adjustments based on changes in the plant or due to material constraints.
• Determine capacity constraints by process.
• Determine consumables needs and communicate with inventory controller to ensure product in on site when needed
• Coordinate and facilitate a weekly meeting with operations manager, inventory controller, purchasing and logistics to confirm schedule and material needs for the following week of production.
• Communicate schedule with peers within system that provides clarity for staff and management alike.
• Communicate schedule to management at least one week in advance to team.
• Help to ensure all production departments have the appropriate tools to complete the schedule that has been created.
• If the schedule presents challenges, bring it to the Operations Managers attention, help to troubleshoot when necessary, communicate with peers and customers so each order placed will have a ready date confirmed within 72 hours of the order placed.
• Assign product to work orders, adhering to FIFO standards, to include all commodities, shelled and inshell.
• Communicate with Sales to ensure any finished goods being brought in are delivered in a timely manner based on needs.
• Ensure orders are packed with appropriate time to allow requested labs to return prior to shipment.
• Identify opportunities to improve the manufacturing or production process through a more effective schedule.
• Communicate with sales staff if there is an opening in the schedule that can be filled/ or floor stocked material available for a fast shipment.
• Prepare reports that outline production actives and effectiveness.
• Prepare and maintain reports that track customer inventory balances to manage warehouse space while ensuring customer orders do not go unfilled.
• Communicate with Sales on production lead times.
• Must be able to comply with any rules and regulations set by the company.
• Help identify and implement a scheduling software to be used along side our inventory control software.
• Other duties as assigned.
