The Ethnic Studies Department seeks to provide the highest quality education for our diverse student population in an inclusive, student-centered environment.
As an interdisciplinary field, Ethnic Studies will work closely with other departments to assist students in reaching their academic goals.
This broad discipline will include studies in African-American, Black, Africana, Latina/o/x, Chicana/o/x, Asian-American, Native American, or American Indian cultures and communities to foster and expand a general understanding of these groups as well as studies of race, class, gender, ethnicity and marginalization in the United States.
The courses will give students the opportunity to develop competence in an understanding of history, cultures and current issues affecting marginalized communities.
The successful applicant will help develop our newly created Ethnic Studies Department, program and degree(s).
POSITION DUTIES: In addition to the responsibilities of the classification description, the specific position is also responsible for: Contributing to the development of the major and degree program in Ethnic Studies, including the potential development of curriculum for Ethnic Studies educators.
Teaching a broad range of courses within the discipline, including Introduction to Ethnic Studies and courses in specialized fields of Ethnic Studies, such as African American Studies, Chicana/o/x Studies, Native American Studies, and Asian American Studies.
Developing curricula in Ethnic Studies to meet the new California State University Area F, University of California IGETC Area 7, and California Community Colleges General Education requirements.
Working collaboratively with faculty colleagues in other disciplines on local Ethnic Studies course requirements.

DEIA Self-Reflection Statement Each faculty member will prepare a Self-Reflection statement using the approved format as described in Appendix G2 V.
This statement is intended to foster a conversation among colleagues that reflects on how faculty can individually and collectively work to improve student outcomes for historically under-represented and disproportionately impacted populations.
The self-reflection statement should be used to help advance individual professional development and institutional dialogue on change.
