Job/Department Summary: Under the general direction of the Associate Dean for the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSS) and Assistant Vice President for Student Success Initiatives and University Advising, the Student Services Professional IV (SSP IV) performs a variety of complex and sensitive professional student service work.
This work includes analysis of needs, development, and coordination of all student success activities and programing within the college.
This work also includes advisement of students and considerable training of staff, faculty, and student advisors on policy, eligibility requirements, and the use of planning, interviewing, and counseling techniques.
The SSP IV develops approaches for implementation that meet specific program needs.
The SSP IV works with the staff advisors and academic departments in BSS to identify and develop academic plans that will help students’ retention and persistence through graduation.
Incumbent develops and compiles advising-related reports and analyzes data with IT Consultant and designated advisors to develop and implement targeted intervention strategies.
The incumbent advises a specific cohort of students in complex situations to decrease time to degree and improve retention.
This position provides considerable work-lead direction, administrative planning, organizing, and prioritizing work to develop creative solutions and integrate approaches across organizational lines.
Incumbent is responsible for identifying specific program needs and for coordinating with academic departments to improve, develop, and implement approaches for student engagement and success.
The purpose of this work is to assist students in making timely progress toward their degree objectives, improve retention and enrollment, and oversee the staff advisors in the college to ensure best practices and campus initiative adherence in all areas of student success.
Required Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related.
AND Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent to four years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems.
*A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job‑related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling, guidance or a job‑related field may be substituted for two years of the required professional experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional, personal or career counseling.
Preferences: Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills: Bilingual.
Experience in academic advising, counseling, orientation, teaching or other student services program or related field.
Have a comprehensive understanding of CSU Chico graduation requirements Familiarity with CSU Chico's academic policies.
Experience with student retention.
Time Base: Full-time Pay Plan: 12/12 Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer: Mon-Thurs 7:00am-5:30pm CSU Classification Salary Range: $68,784 - $98,112 per year.
